This building is a remarkable example of "they don't build 'em like that anymore". The floors above first are full dimension 2x6s on end, covered with a layer of tongue & groove pine, and a layer of tongue & groove maple. That makes a floor almost 8" thick of solid wood, supported by old growth northern yellow pine beams 15" square!
That makes a structure that can support a tremendous anount of weight! Over the last century, this building, stacked to the ceiling with solid wood, enabled Dubuque to lead the nation in window and door manufacturing.
Warehousing remains it's primary function today. With 8 truck docks, 3 drive in doors, two 7000 lb capacity elevators and a fork lift ramp, it can handle large volumes in and out. We're a USDA certitfied food grade storage facility.
In this building, as well as 801 Jackson, Wilmac offers a full suite of shipping, receiving and order processing services. See our Warehousing page.
